TR In-house 2024
The second Training Room in-house event of 2024 took place over the weekend of July 13th and 14th. Unlike the previous event in March, which featured mixed-gender teams, this edition had teams composed of two females and two males. The rookies competed on Saturday, while the intermediates took to the field on Sunday.

Rookies Category (July 13th)
​
The rookies kicked off their competition at Golden Bay, where they were informed just an hour before the event that the first challenge would be a kayak race, organized in collaboration with Aquamarine. The event began with 40 burpees over the partner, followed by a dash to the kayaks. Teams then completed a lap before racing back to the finish line on the sand. The Barbell Barbers (Jake and Jack) emerged victorious, marking the start of a perfect day as they went on to win every event. In the women's category, the WOD Warriors (Hanna and Katherine) claimed first place, followed by The Schmints (Desiree and Valentina) and Human Fitources (Roberta and Kelly).

Event 2: Thrust and Row. This event featured a 600m/500m row combined with synchro single-arm dumbbell thrusters. The Barbell Barbers continued their winning streak, with ONE ONE ZERO (Jude and Jordi, named for their combined age of 110) impressively securing second place. Jolly & Rage (Anthea and Naomi) clinched a crucial event win, boosting their chances for a podium finish.

Event 3: A Shoulder to Cry On. a crowd favourite, this event involved a partner carry. The Schmints won in the women's category with 1,352 points, while the Barbell Barbers topped the men's category with 1,305 reps.
Event 4: Assault Bike Surprise. The final event, a grueling workout on the Assault Bike, required teams to complete 140/90 calories. This event reshuffled the women's podium with the WOD Warriors winning again, followed by One and Done, and Jolly & Rage. The Barbell Barbers secured their fourth consecutive win, solidifying their dominance.

Ultimately, the WOD Warriors (Hanna Kentta and Katherine Pace Moore) took the top spot on the podium. Jolly & Rage (Anthea Fenech and Naomi Portelli) claimed second place, edging out Human Fitources (Roberta Vella and Kelly Schembri), who finished third. Other teams, in order of final placement, included The Schmints, One and Done, Muscle Mamas, PB to my Jelly, and Will WOD for Cake.

In the male category, the Barbell Barbers (Jake Farrugia and Jack Vella) unsurprisingly topped the podium with a perfect score. ONE ONE ZERO (Jude Zammit and Jordi Goetstouwers) finished second, followed by Circuit Breakers (Mark Cilia and Joseph Borg) in third. I Just Met You (Nick Spiteri and James Dawson) rounded out the top four.

Intermediate Category (July 14th)
​
The intermediates began their day at Golden Bay with a more challenging version of the kayak race, starting with a swim, followed by a longer kayak lap. Emm, Nat Amused! (Emma and Natasha) won the women's race, while Nik Naks (Luke and Thomas) took the men's event.

Event 2: Thrust and Go! This event involved four rounds of a 400m run and 20 fat bar thrusters, with increasing weight each round. Gracious Chaos (Anna and Claire) won in the women's category, maintaining a fierce competition with Emm, Nat Amused! In the men's category, Nik Naks secured another victory, closely followed by The Buff Boys.

Event 3: Clean It Up. A two-part workout, this event required teams to perform decreasing reps of power cleans and sync burpees over the bar, followed by a max clean weight lift. Both Gracious Chaos and Emm, Nat Amused tied with 147kg in the lift, but Gracious Chaos finished the initial part faster. Natasha notably achieved a personal best with a 92kg clean. In the men's category, The Dynamic Duo (Francesco and Darren) excelled in the max clean lift, winning with a combined 210kg.

Final Event: Gymnastics Surprise. The surprise final event involved various gymnastics movements, with double points on the line. Gracious Chaos dominated, finishing two minutes ahead of Emm, Nat Amused! Panic and Power (Kate and Rachel) impressed everyone by pushing through new and challenging movements. In the men's category, The Dynamic Duo secured another event win, followed by Nik Naks and The Buff Boys.
The intermediate female podium saw Gracious Chaos (Anna Aloisio and Claire Borg) on top, with Emm, Nat Amused! (Emma Zammit and Natasha Fenech) in second, and Panic & Power (Kate Galea and Rachel Fenech) in third. In the male category, Nik Naks (Luke Vella and Thomas Sant) took gold, followed by The Dynamic Duo (Francesco Aquilina and Darren Bowd), and The Buff Boys (Karl Pulo and Alfred Apap).

This second edition of the TR in-house events for 2024 was a resounding success. Congratulations to all participants, coaches, judges, and volunteers. On to the next event!
