First Training Room In-House Competition Awards Top 3 Rookies and Intermediate Teams.

The First IN-HOUSE competition for our Training Room members took place over the past weekend with 17 Rookie teams competing on Saturday and 7 Intermediate teams competing on Sunday. At Training Room, we announced that we will be hosting 4 in-house events throughout 2024, with this first one calling teams of 2, with 1 male and 1 female participant. Coach Dimitrije was assigned head of IN-HOUSES for 2024, and alongside myself (Yazmin) and the help of all other TR coaches, he will be planning, organising and brining all the events to life throughout 2024.
This was the first time a ROOKIES category was introduced in the Training Room In-House events, and the main aim of it was to include all our members that have yet to learn all the skills required for most competitions. The 17 registered teams included long time TR members and brand new ones, father-daughter teams, sibling teams and loads of couples! It served as a perfect opportunity to create a fun competitive environment for our beginner level members, and hopefully motivate them to continue improving on their skills throughout the rest of the year.
Soon to be married couple Samantha Farrugia and Jean Pace were the winners of the Rookies category. Their team, Protein Pizza, started the day with an event win in 'Sun, Surf and Stairs'. Then they went on to win the second event 'Quad's Going on?', and finished in 2nd in 'Sharing is Caring'. In a surprise last event, the 'Tug of War' they went head to head with the second place finishers, Aggressively Average. Unfortutnely they lost that event 2-0, but this loss didn't change their overall standings in the end.

Aggressively Average, made up of TR members Karl Pulo and Kirsty Borg, were the Rookie runner-ups of the day. They had 1 second place finish and 2 third place finisihes throughout the day, then went on to win the Tug of war, despite Karl battling a chronic knee injury.
In 3rd place we had 'How I met your Mother', made up of couple Dylan Attard and Vera Panczyk. They finished in 2nd place in 'Sun, Surf and Stairs', 3rd place in 'Quad's Going on?' and 8th place in 'Sharing is Caring'.
Pretty Tough, Rhea Zammit Cutajar and Pierluigi Rinaldi's team, were the only team to take an event win from Protein Pizza, with a first place finish in 'Sharing is Caring'. They went on to finish the competition in 4th place with only 2 points behind 3rd place. Other respectable results came from Boujee Baddies, who finished in 5th place and was made up of father-daughter duo Jude and Jade Zammit. Jude was the oldest competitor on the day at 59 years old.

The intermediate category was a super close competition, with 1 point separating the first 4 teams in the final standings. Claire Borg and Shaun Attard managed to snatch the gold medal with 11 points. Their team, Attard Alliance, finished in 2nd place in 'Sun, Surf and Stairs', 1st place in 'Barbells Down the Stream', and then two 4th place finishes in 'Mirror Mirror' and 'Trippin' Till The End'.
They were followed by Nathan Charlesworth's and Chelsea Beerman's team, Did You Sign the Waiver? They started the day with an event win, and the best time all weekend for 'Sun, Surf and Stairs' at 09:19, then went on to finish in 6th in the second event, 2nd in the third, and 3rd in the final.
And again, only 1 point behind Nathan and Chelsea, the Half Dutchies finished in 4rd place overall. Chayenne Muscat and Sacha Meli's event win in 'Trippin' till the End' gave them the edge and pushed them up to third place overall with 13 points ahead of Thruster Taco (Ivan Sciberras and Lydia Xuereb) who finished in 4th with 14 points.
The event could have never been possible without the judges, volunteers and Training Room team who volunteered their time over the weekend to help and support. Honourable mention to Alana Muscat, who volunteered to stand in the water to hand out flags in 'Sun, Surf and Stairs' on day 1, even though she was competing the next day! Special thanks to the Training Room coaches: Julia, Corey, William, Shaun and Srdjan for all their help, not just on the day, but also the days leading up to the event. Special thanks also to the other TR members who came over to help with judging and setting up. Finally, thank you to coach Dimitrije, for planning and organising what the TR members described as the best in-house competition yet. (we forgive you for the beach event...maybe?) We can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Thank you also to Quest Malta, SVR (PharmaMT), Malta Nutrition and Recovery Loft for the prizes)
The next in-house for Training Room is provisionally planned for 6th and 7th or 13th and 14th of July, and will be calling for teams of 2 (F/F), (M/M). It's never too early to start training for your competition! More info will come in the coming weeks.
